Coconut Oil Chews: Unlocking the Secrets of Oil Pulling!

    Shutterstock

Embracing oil pulling has become a significant part of my oral care routine. I previously shared my journey into this traditional practice and why I opted for coconut oil. Recently, I elevated my routine further by using coconut oil pulling chews infused with essential oils!

    Understanding Coconut Oil Pulling

If you’re not yet acquainted with oil pulling, here’s the scoop. It involves swishing oil—typically sesame or coconut—around in your mouth before disposing of it in the trash. Research, along with numerous personal accounts, indicates it can effectively reduce plaque buildup. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial, making it helpful in managing oral bacteria.

This ancient practice of coconut oil pulling is regaining popularity. Your swishing time can vary based on comfort, but a range of 5 to 20 minutes is generally recommended. As for frequency? I aim for once daily or at least several times a week.

The type of coconut oil you choose plays a crucial part, too. My recommendation? Opt for organic, virgin (or unrefined) coconut oil. MCT oil is also a suitable alternative.

Effective Oil Pulling With Coconut Oil

The concept behind oil pulling is that the oil targets and eliminates harmful substances lurking in your mouth, like bacteria and plaque. Unlike alcohol-based mouthwashes or conventional toothpaste, oil can penetrate tricky areas of your gums. The natural antibacterial qualities of oils such as coconut may also assist in breaking down undesirable bacteria.

Many users report a heightened sense of cleanliness in their teeth and gums with regular oil pulling. Others notice a significant reduction in bad breath. Personally, I’ve experienced decreased gum swelling and plaque. After incorporating oil pulling into my routine, my dentist praised the cleanliness of my teeth.

While oil pulling isn’t a miracle solution, it seems to promote healthier teeth and gums, especially when combined with other oral health practices. For a deeper dive into this topic, feel free to check out my more detailed post about coconut oil pulling.

Enhancing Coconut Oil Pulling with Essential Oils

The inspiration for these coconut oil pulling chews struck me one day while I was crafting homemade chocolate in molds. I realized that I could simplify my routine by creating bite-sized oil pulling chews.

Incorporating essential oils like peppermint, clove, and tea tree elevates both the flavor and the health advantages. My current favorites are mint and clove. Just be sure the oils you choose are safe for oral use and don’t interfere with any medications or health conditions you may have.

Here are some essential oils that pair well with oil pulling:

I keep my chews in the fridge to preserve their shape. Cold storage not only solidifies them but also enhances the initial texture. For kids who struggle with coconut oil’s texture, having these refrigerated helps them enjoy the “chewing” experience.
