Ashley Tisdale is reminded daily of the beautiful chaos that comes with being a mom of two. With her hands full as an actress, singer, and business owner—having kicked off her lifestyle brand Frenshe in 2020—Tisdale embodies the multitasking spirit that many of us know all too well. Her daughter Jupiter is now 4, and little Emerson turns 1 this fall. So, it’s no surprise that Tisdale has teamed up with *CoComelon* for an initiative focused on a rite of passage for many young families: potty training. Recently, Scary Mommy caught up with her just before a potty training party, and let’s just say, it was both enlightening and refreshingly candid.
When asked about what she discovered while potty training Jupiter that she plans to apply with Emerson, Tisdale emphasized the importance of patience and adaptability. “Initially, I thought it was all about sticking to a strict timeline,” she explained. “But really, it’s more about understanding that each kid has their own rhythm. You can’t pressure them or make it a stressful environment. For us, it was about dropping the expectations, being consistent, and approaching it like a team sport.” She also recalled moments of joy amidst the inevitable accidents, saying, “Those slip-ups aren’t failures; they’re just part of the learning curve.”
Living in a household that’s probably more musical than most, it’s no wonder that *CoComelon* plays a significant role in her family’s entertainment lineup. Tisdale mentioned one particular video that struck a chord with her, “The ‘B.I.N.G.O.’ video is totally adorable. JJ gets a puppy who gets messy in a puddle, and of course, JJ jumps right in too. It’s such a cute reminder that for kids, sometimes mess equals fun!”
On the topic of music, Tisdale’s home is a symphony of sounds. “With my husband being a composer, the place is always buzzing with creativity,” she shared. Jupiter, ever the performer, loves to bring out the inner star in the family, hosting mini-concerts where they all join in. “My little one has a surprising taste, too. You wouldn’t believe my 4-year-old is jamming to the Ramones!”
Turning to storytime, Tisdale shared her love for certain children’s books that resonate with her and her girls. “Mo Willems’ Pigeon series? A hit all around. Kids just love to say ‘no’ to the Pigeon, and I appreciate how determined he is. Another favorite is The Monster Parade, which is fantastic for explaining those complex feelings that kids experience—showing them that emotions are temporary and can fluctuate.”
With such a busy lifestyle, beauty routines often take a backseat for moms like Tisdale. “I keep my beauty regimen really simple. Tinted sunscreen and brow gel are huge for me,” she said, laughing. “And I swear by a good lip/cheek cream for a quick refresh. Can’t forget dry shampoo, either! If I’m in a rush, I throw my hair into a sleek bun with a little hair mask—it’s a lifesaver.”
When it comes to parenting advice, one phrase stood out for her: “If everyone’s fed and mostly dressed, you’re doing great.” It’s a reminder that we all need from time to time. “Let go of trying to nail it perfectly,” she advised, “and focus on doing things with love. And don’t underestimate the magic of a well-timed snack—for both you and the little ones!”
Reflecting on her time with *High School Musical*, Tisdale was filled with nostalgia. “I’ve got such gratitude for that time. It opened so many doors for me, and I hold Sharpy dear to my heart,” she reminisced. “What sticks with me is that sense of excitement and possibility. Even though I have new challenges now, I strive to maintain that same open mindset in this season of parenting and work.”
Finally, for every mom out there craving a moment of peace, Tisdale has a simple but meaningful tip: “Every mom deserves a door that closes. Create a little sanctuary just for you, whether it’s a shelf of your favorite books, skincare, or even just lighting a candle for a moment of calm. Just a little space to check in with yourself makes all the difference.”
Through her candid insights and relatable experiences, Ashley Tisdale reminds us that parenting, like life, is all about navigating the beautiful messiness, embracing the chaos, and finding joy in the little moments.
